Life on Campus

Intramurals

Simpson offers a variety of intramural sports throughout the school year ranging from basketball to dodgeball. Residential floors are encouraged to form teams and compete for the coveted champion T-shirts.

Student Activities

Student activity coordinators put on special events that enhance the rich community life students experience on campus. Simpson believes in student initiative and student voice. Several of our favorite campus traditions were started by students, who had an idea and shared their dream. Here are some of the great events Simpson students look forward to each year:

  • Orientation Square-Dance: Incoming freshmen experience a true hoedown with an authentic square-dance caller. Students typically dress country-western to play up the Old West theme.
  • Toga Party: What better way to kick off the new school year than with a giant ice cream social where everyone wears a toga?
  • Stick-Em: Imagine a giant game of tag where you have no idea who is after you, or who is even playing. Paranoid students are often seen frantically running from class to class during Stick-Em week.
  • 3Minutes: 3Minutes is a large stage production best described as a cross between a gong show and "American Idol." Students perform on stage and try to survive 3 minutes without being gonged by our panel of judges.
  • Exposure: Students don Oscar-worthy garb and walk the red carpet during Exposure, Simpson's film festival. This Hollywood-themed night showcases student films and includes celebrity impersonators and awards.
  • Christmas Party: A popular event among students, the Christmas Party features the annual Texas Hold-Em tournament, photos with Santa, arts and crafts, video games, and Santa's top secret room.
  • Nitelife: The oldest Simpson tradition, this large-scale stage production pulls out all the stops to present an evening of entertainment. Students perform acts and skits in front of a packed audience of faculty, staff, current students, and future students.
  • Shopping Cart Races: It's the battle of the residence halls as floors compete against each other in a no-holds-barred shopping cart race around campus. Carts are decorated and themed, and riders carry "weapons" they can use against their opponents.
Walk the red carpet

Students grouped together and spent months directing, editing, writing and acting to produce a number of films that were later enjoyed by the Simpson community at our own mock Acadamy Awards event, Exposure.

"If it hadn't been for the support of the Student Development office, this event wouldn't have happened.I love that I can take an idea and make it happen."
-- Aaron Holmes, Film Festival Coordinator.
