Types of Financial Aid

Simpson University Institutional Aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend applying early to recieve the maximum amount of aid. All students are encouraged to apply for financial aid regardless of their financial needs.

Requirements:

1. Simpson University asks that all students applying for institutional aid apply for other forms of grant-based aid available through federal and state programs. We ask that all students file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid); California students must apply and meet the Cal Grant deadline and criteria.

2. Students receiving institutional aid must complete their financial aid file by the beginning of each semester in order to maintain eligibility.

3. Institutional aid is based on tuition, fees, room and board. Institutional aid is considered as grants by Simpson University.

4. Institutional aid is applied directly to a student's account and is not transferable to other students.

5. Institutional aid recipients must maintain full-time enrollment in order to remain eligible.

6. We ask that dependent students (as defined by FAFSA), who enter the university for the first time and receive $1,500 or more in institutional aid, reside in campus housing, in the Gatehouse residence, or with their parents/legal guardians.

7. Institutional aid is for the fall and spring semesters only (no aid is awarded for summer sessions).

8. All institutional aid is renewable for four consecutive academic years (fall and spring terms), provided the student:

  • Maintains satisfactory academic progress,
  • Remains in good standing with all Simpson University campus policies; and
  • Completes course selection and registers for the next fall on or before set deadlines.

9. Institutional aid is coordinated and adjusted with other forms of aid and cannot exceed a student's cost of tuition, fees, room and board even when other aid has been awarded. If a student is a Cal Grant recipient, institutional aid cannot exceed the student's need (as defined by state regulations). Institutional aid may have to be reduced so that aid does not exceed these limits.

10. Students may participate in one semester (fall or spring) of international study abroad prior to completion of the bachelor degree and as approved by the Office of the Provost. Institutional aid will be applied at 50 percent of the student's renewable award.

11. Students concurrently enrolled in other institutions are eligible for Simpson University institutional aid based only on the units being taken at Simpson University.

12. Students who are in default of the Title IV federal aid are not eligible for institutional aid.

Once you have been accepted to Simpson University and all necessary financial aid documents have been submitted, you will receive an Award Packet. The Award Letter outlines the student financial aid that you are eligible to receive.

Simpson University will award the maximum grants, scholarships, loans and work study for which a student qualifies, within the limits of availability of funds, federal guidelines, and institutional policies. Availability of all aid is subject to federal, state, institutional, and private funding.

We welcome questions that you may have as you review the aid elements. For future students, contact your Admissions Counselor. For current students, contact your Financial Aid Counselor.
