Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies

The M.A. in Intercultural Studies (M.A.I.C.S.) is a 54 unit degree program designed for missionaries and others working in or preparing for cross-cultural ministries. It can also serve as a pre-doctoral master's program for those considering postgraduate studies (D.Miss. or Ph.D.) in missions and intercultural studies.

The M.A.I.C.S. offers a balanced diet of components with an emphasis on cross-cultural and non-western perspectives, including personal and spiritual formation of the leader, biblical and theological foundations, cultural analysis, and essential and selected ministry skills.

Like the other degrees related to it, the M.A.I.C.S. is an "in-ministry" program designed primarily for part-time adult learners who are already involved in ministry. This means, first, that the program is designed to engage students in theological reflection on the practice of ministry. The program is not "preparation for ministry," rather it is designed to equip students who are already engaged in ministry to think critically and discerningly about their ministries using biblical and theological resources, cultural analysis, sociological and psychological principles, and missiological research. It is not currently designed to be a residential, full-time program, though it is possible for students living in the Redding area to accelerate their programs.
