The Academic Success Center Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership in developing and administering comprehensive academic support services and is responsible for the coordination and implementation of a Disability Services program for all Simpson University students with documented disabilities under the mandates of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Duties include managing the academic and administrative functions of the Academic Success Center which oversees disability services including coordinating learning support services for students through faculty, staff, and students, advocacy for academic support and disability-related issues, and ongoing program assessment. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in learning services or related field. Master’s degree in related field preferred
  2. Minimum of three years experience in learning services in educational setting or related field
  3. Minimum of three years experience in supervisory/management in related field
  4. Knowledge and understanding of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973) along with current interpretation and application of this law
  5. Knowledge of various learning disabilities and demonstrated experience in providing services for such disabilities
  6. Experience with Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
  7. Experience with institutional integrated database and/or willingness and aptitude to learn new programs as needed

Responsibilities:

  1. Work with the students under the Americans with Disabilities Act to arrange for appropriate academic accommodations
  2. Supervise the tutoring services available through faculty, staff, and student personnel. Work to ensure that students have access to needed tutoring
  3. Evaluate and refer students to the Counseling Center for specific testing for determining and documenting learning disabilities
  4. Design and implement a strategy to inform students and faculty of available learning services along with encouragement for usage of the accommodations
  5. Coordinate test proctoring for special-needs students
  6. Coordinate or direct other learning services, which may be deemed necessary
  7. Work in cooperation with Admissions concerning admitting decisions for at-risk students
  8. Communicate with appropriate faculty and staff regarding students on provisional, warning, and probation status for whom academic referrals have been made
  9. Develop/maintain budget in cooperation with the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs
  10. Work in cooperation with Counseling Center to obtain testing & therapy for students with such needs
  11.  Identify and acquire ASC resources and technology to assist student success
  12.  Maintain resource library and network
  13.  Participate in New Student Orientation
  14.  Serve as a member of institutional committees as assigned
