Simpson University Launches Education Program in Korea

REDDING, Calif. - This fall, Simpson University launched a Master's of Arts in Education program in the Republic of Korea. Sixteen teachers are enrolled in the first international cohort offered by Simpson.
Simpson University and Suwon International School, a K - 12 grade school in Korea, have been in communication since October 2007 regarding the possibility of offering a master's program to their teachers.
The President of South Korea, Lee Myung-bak, strongly recommends that teachers in the country have an emphasis in English language learning. Simpson University was able to offer a Master's of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction/ English Language Learning.
Classes are offered 4 days of each month over 2 years. Simpson University professors Dr. Richard Harris, Dr. Ron McGraw, Dr. Paul Jones, Dr. Carol Wertz, and Dr. Tom Forbes will each be traveling to Sumon to teach the courses in shifts.
Dr. Richard Harris, Director of the Administrative Services Credential for the School of Education, just returned from Korea after teaching the first class to the new cohort of students.
"I am so impressed by the abilities of these teachers. They are highly motivated and eager to learn. I came back inspired by them," said Dr. Harris.
The 16 teachers come from a variety of countries including Korea, Honduras, Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Simpson University is the only western university offering graduate level work in Korea with the exception of the Department of Defense.
