Simpson University Offers CAB Program

For Immediate Release
February 7, 2008

REDDING, Calif. - In an effort to provide additional California students with access to higher education, Simpson University, a private 4-year Christian university located in northern California, is offering its California Aid Benefit program (CAB), which provides full tuition to students who receive Cal Grant and Pell Grant for the 2008-2009 school year. First time students enrolled in the traditional undergraduate program or ASPIRE, Simpson's adult degree-completion program, are eligible.

Students receiving the maximum amount of Cal Grant A, currently $9,708 and who qualify for any amount of Pell Grant, $890-$4,731, will be guaranteed full tuition their first year, with the same amount provided through the following three years, assuming the student maintains state, federal and institutional academic requirements.

Simpson University students whose scholarships and grants do not equal the cost of tuition will receive Simpson grants to cover the full amount.

Director of Enrollment Management for Simpson University, Jim Herberger, said, "Under our CAB program, resident students will find the total cost of a Simpson University education less than that of most state schools. The CAB program directly addresses the economic issues that may typically keep students from considering a private four-year university. Our purpose with the program is to remove economic barriers and allow students to completely focus on academics and personal development."

Under Simpson's CAB program, students will only be responsible for tuition increases if they occur after the first year.

Simpson University President Dr. Larry J. McKinney said, "Simpson University is a private institution committed to making higher education an obtainable goal for everyone. We are dedicated to providing California students with access to a great education and a limitless future."

At Simpson University, 100 percent of traditional undergraduate students and 90 percent of non-traditional students receive financial assistance. Of the current students enrolled, one-third of them receive Cal Grant. In addition, over half of the undergraduate student body receives Pell Grant.
