December 17, 2007
REDDING, Calif. - The Myriad, an alternative-rock band including three Simpson University alumni, won MTV's "Dew Circuit Breakout" competition on Saturday, Dec. 15.
After being chosen as one of the top three bands out of 4,000, The Myriad was flown to New York City to perform during a live broadcast finale from Times Square. The Myriad was announced as the 2007 winner with the most online votes.
Redding resident, Jeremy Edwardson, cofounded The Myriad in 2001. The band's lead-vocalist earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Simpson University in 2001. Guitarist, Jonathan Young is a 1999 alumnus with a youth ministries major, and bassist John Roger Schofield graduated in 2001 with an English degree.
Other band members include Redding resident, Randy Miller on drums, and Steven Tracey on keyboards.
Since performing at Simpson University last October, the band continues to increase in popularity. The Myriad has been touring the country and playing in front of sold-out audiences. After winning the Circuit Breakout contest, The Myriad will star in its first MTV music video for rotation on-air. Along with the exposure it will receive, the band will also have opportunities to host MTV and MTV2 shows and promotions throughout the next year.
The Myriad signed with Floodgate Records in 2004 and released its first full-length record ("You Can't Trust a Ladder") in June 2005. The band recently signed with Koch Records out of New York and has been recording new songs for its second album in Germany and London. "With Arrows, With Poise" is set to be released in March 2008.
