September 18, 2007

REDDING, Calif. - Wayne Stower has been chosen as the new head women's softball coach at Simpson University. Stower comes to Simpson from Foothill High School where he coached softball for seven years.

"I'm very excited to take on the new challenge of coaching at the college level with Simpson University," said Stower. "I am going to do all I can to build a strong, competitive team at Simpson, by recruiting quality softball players, as well as great young ladies to develop the program."

Stower will begin the recruitment process to have the Simpson softball team in place by 2008.  The softball program will begin in 2009.

Stower began his baseball career at Shasta College. In 1975 he competed in his first season of minor league baseball with the White Sox organization out of Edmonton, Canada. After two seasons of minor league baseball, Stower moved to Red Bluff and continued his fast pitch softball career. During this time he competed in the elite National Championship tournament for seven years, winning two titles. He was also awarded the All-American honors for three seasons. Stower, who began coaching Amateur Softball Association softball in 1995, was offered the head varsity softball coach position at Foothill High School where he coached for seven years until recently accepting a coaching position at Simpson University.

Under Stower's coaching, the Foothill program reached the section play=offs every season and reached the championship game five out of seven seasons, winning the Section Championships in the 2007 season.
