Simpson University Unveils A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University announces the launch of the A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary beginning this fall. The announcement coincides with the university receiving approval for the Master of Divinity degree from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

The seminary will offer master's programs in theological and ministry studies, including a Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies, and Master of Arts in Christian Leadership; and approval is pending on a Master of Arts in Christian Studies. The new seminary will also include certificates in Biblical and Theological Studies, Ministry Studies, Spiritual Formation, and Intercultural Studies.

A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary's curriculum is designed primarily for pastors and ministry leaders already serving in ministry, and will be offered in a variety of formats, including online, in cohort groups of students in Reno, Sacramento, and Sunnyvale, in one- and two-week intensive courses, and in a residential format at the Simpson University campus.

The Dean of the seminary, Dr. Robert Redman, said, "Churches and ministry leaders are working to keep pace with profound and powerful changes in our culture and the world. Continuing their education is an important part of building on their ministry effectiveness. I believe A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary will play a vital role in shaping a new generation of lifelong learners who are spiritually strong and effective as leaders in a variety of settings, from local churches to community ministries to cross-cultural work overseas."

The seminary is named for Aiden Wilson Tozer (1897-1963), who is widely regarded as one of the most perceptive Christian commentators of the 20th century. He was a popular speaker and author and also served as a pastor of Christian and Missionary Alliance churches in Chicago and Toronto.

Simpson University President Dr. Larry J. McKinney said, "The addition of the Master of Divinity degree and the creation of a seminary add to the depth of our academic offerings. This key addition builds on a solid curriculum of undergraduate, professional and graduate studies and is part of our intentional plan to grow the Simpson University program offerings. Through A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary, the university continues to expand its mission of delivering Christian higher education. Simpson University educates students for a broad range of market careers and continues to expand areas of study to meet market demand."

A.W. Tozer's surviving children generously gave the naming rights to Simpson University last summer.
