Vern Howard
Administrator 1989-2000
Under Vern Howard's leadership as Director of Athletics from 1989-2000, Simpson athletics exploded into what it is today. Under his watch, Simpson started women's basketball, softball, men's and women's soccer, men's volleyball, and baseball as well as the construction and utilization of the Heritage Student Life Center, soccer field, and softball field on Simpson's campus. After successfully bidding for the NCCAA DII National Volleyball Championship in 1999 and 2000, Howard saw the women's volleyball program win the school's first national title on their home floor. In addition to his administrative duties, Coach Howard racked up 55 wins as the head of the men's basketball program from 1989-1995. A man with many hats to fill, Howard also coached men's soccer and held post as Dean of Enrollment Management in his time at Simpson.
