Men's Baseball Coaching Staff

Head Coach: Rick Bosetti

The fall 2007 season is about to begin for the Simpson Redhawks. Coach Bosetti was able to bring into Simpson more experience players this year to add to last years bumper crop of freshmen. The schedule has been expanded to Fifty Three games this year with sixteen games versus Division II & III opponents. Our opening road trip to Southern California will include five games with perennial NAIA powerhouse Biola, Concordia and Point Loma. Our goal here at Simpson is to produce a highly competitve team as quickly as possible.

A former Major League outfielder, Coach Bosetti is a successful businessman and is also a elected Councilman in the City of Redding. Coach Bosetti spent time in the Major Leagues with Philadelphia, St.Louis, Toronto and the Oakland A's. Playing in parts of seven seasons, Bosetti's best year came in 1979 when he tallied 161 hits and 65 RBIs while playing in 162 games for the Toronto Blue Jays. Twic he led the the American league in putouts and in 1979 he led it in assists with 19.

Coach Bosetii states:

"When I show one of my players how to do something on the field it is not coming from theory but from actual professional experince at the highest level in baseball. We can offer a uniques experience here at Simpson that few if any other Universities at this level or any level for that matter,. We have two coaches with a combined seventeen years of major league experience. Greg Cadaret is our pitching coach and brings with him eleven years of pitching and 450 appearances in the major leagues. We have already seen the dramatic improvement in our pitching that was anticipated with his arrival". On top of what these two coaches can offer, Simpson has regular visits from other major league teammates to assist in all aspects of the game.

The University has approved plans for a new Baseball field to be constructed on campus. Ten acres of land has been designated for this complex. It will be a tremendous asset to the program and the first steps have been taken to begin raising the 1.5 million dollars needed.

"Our most important goal here is to  see that all of our student athletes graduate on time with their desired degrees. Greg and I are empathic when we talk with our athletes or recruits as to how their education will be the most important aspect of their college experience", said Coach Bosetti.

Coach Bosetti and Coach Cadaret are both looking forward to the 2008 season.

Pitching Coach: Greg Cadaret

Coach Cadaret spent seventeen years playing professional baseball from 1983-2000. He was an eleventh round draft choice of the Oakland Athletics out of Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids Michigan. He came through the A's minor leagues with the likes of Terry Steinbach, Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire and Walt Weis where they combined for three minor league championships and joined the core of veterans in the Big Leagues where Coach Cadaret was part of the 88'& 89' world series teams. Greg was traded to the New York Yankees for Ricky Henderson and spent the next four years in New York. Over his 11 year major league career he played with 9 teams mostly in the American League. He finished his career with the Anaheim Angels retiring after spring training in 2000.

"As a pitching coach I believe in teaching my pitchers to think for themselves and I call very few pitches. I believe you are better pitcher if you are thinking and commited to your own game out on the mound. We spend alot of time on how to get into a hitters head and setting up hitters and using the feedback that hitters give us in their approach, to let them get themselves out. I don't play nintendo and I don't want robots on the mound, I believe my job is to teach you the game. If you come out of Simpson and get a chance to play at the next level or just end up coaching little league I want you to understand the game. Even more importantly we want to send out into the world young men that we are proud of and represent this institution in everyday life. We will not sacrifice our integrity to win a ballgame".

Coach Cadaret still spends alot of time with his connections to the Oakland A's working their youth camps in the bay area and coaching their Adult Fantasy camp teams.

With Coach Bosetti and Coach Cadaret's former teammates scattered throughout the scouting ranks and minor league coaching systems around North America, if they have a player who is ready, it will take just a phone call to get them seen by these two former pros.
