HEAD COACH: Melissa Church

Melissa Church begins her 3rd season as Head Coach of the Simpson University Volleyball Program. In 2006 the Red Hawks finished 3rd in the Cal Pac Conference with a 9-5 conference record, making it the best finish is Simpson University History. The team also made it to the NCCAA Division I National Tournament in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Coach Church brings a wealth of Volleyball experience as a coach, player and an Official. After playing 3 yrs of Varsity Volleyball at Yreka High School, Church began her collegiate career at Butte College. As a setter Coach Church had 2 highly successful years at Butte earning All Conference, All Academic Athlete, as well as leading the State of California in Assists, and leading the team to the State Tournament for the 1st time in Butte College History. She then earned a Full Ride Athletic Scholarship to Barry University, a NCAA Division II school in Miami Shores, Florida where she played for 1 yr before returning home to be closer to family and to return to what she considers a more desirable area. Church finished her collegiate career playing her last season for fellow Cal Pac member Pacific Union College.
As a Coach, Church has been involved with Coaching Volleyball Camps for more than 5 years where she feels she developed immensely as a Coach. She also has coached High School, and Club throughout the North State. While at Butte Coach Church belonged to the NCVOA and officiated High School volleyball matches for 2 yrs.
Melissa and husband of 4 yrs Willie are kept very busy by the joy of their lives, a 2 yr. old daughter Shawnee. Church earned her Bachelors Degree at Simpson where she studied Business Administration and Human Resource Management. In addition to coaching, Church is a Program Analyst for the United States Forest Service.
ASSISTANT COACH: Carly Bagshaw
Carly Bagshaw now takes on a different approach in her volleyball career as the assistant volleyball coach here at Simpson University. Bagshaw was a player at Simpson in 2005-2006. Bagshaw joins head coach Melissa Church this season to improve the programs creditability as a NCCAA championship contender team. They also hope to further their standings in the NAIA conference, and plan on making to Regional’s and Nationals this 2007 season.
Bagshaw as played at Red Bluff High School, where she was a two years varsity lettermen and was named All Easter Athletic League and All Section her senior year of high school. She then moved on to Shasta College where she received All conference honors during her two year tenure. After having some difficulties at Shasta College, she knew she needed some “good” people in her life, so Church talked her into coming to Simpson University to play volleyball and finish school. Bagshaw led the NCCAA conference in kills and was second in passing in her two years at Simpson, and received All Conference honors in 2005 and 2006. She was also named NCCAA I All American and received the MVP team award. She is now in the ASPIRE night program at Simpson were she is work on her degree in Liberal Studies and plans to become a teacher.
Carly has not only played competitive volleyball for the last 7 years of her life, but has also coached Red Bluff Club volleyball for the last 2 years and loves doing that as well.
She is currently employed at Shasta Ortho Physical Therapy as a Therapist aid and loves her co-workers and patients very much. Carly loves people and loves being competitive, so put those two together in her everyday life and she has got it made.
Carly is a very adventurous person and loves trying almost all new things. (Unless it comes form water and you have to eat it) She loves to go rollerblading, running with her dog, going camping, and she especially loves her family and boyfriend of almost 8 years.
