While it wasn't quite the year that they were looking for, the Simpson University cross country team got their first official award as Amber Dever (Fr., Redding) was named to the All California Pacific (Cal Pac) Conference second team.
At the Cal Pac Championships in Rocklin on October 27th, Dever ran a solid 22:27.82 in the 5K race, which was good for 11th place overall and earned her second-team honors. Lynette Garringer and Muang Saechao finished just outside the All Conference times with 23:20.93 and 23:34.72.
It was a positive sign for a first-year program. A program that has struggled this year due to injuries and a small roster. The Red Hawks were not able to field a complete men's or women's team in any competition this year, but are looking toward the future with high expectations.
While their numbers were small this year, with a year of experience and some added recruits for next season, the Red Hawks hope to quickly jump up the Cal Pac ranks.
The only true senior on the team, Ben Gurczynski finished just one spot out of an All Cal Pac nod with a time of 33:18.63 on the 8K course. Underclassmen Kyle Stephens and Aaron Swank did not finish far behind with times of 34:54.31 and 35:53.74, respectively.
