Simpson Upends Cal State Maritime 1-0
2nd win in two days for Vanguard
- Redding, CA (9/19/2003)
Playing their second game in two days, the Simpson men's soccer team improved to 2-0 with their victory over Cal State Maritime.
Once again playing in near triple digit weather, Simpson was able to control the first half with great ball movement and maintained the majority of possession. Unfortunately, Cal State Maritime's defense was determined and held the Vanguards scoreless as both teams went into the half deadlocked at zero.
The second half began with Simpson again dominating offensively and Maritime hitting on the counter attack. In the 75th minute of the contest, the Vanguards made their pressure count as Aaron Koopmans broke away down the right sideline and made it to the goal line and assisted brother Sam Koopmans for the goal. The goal gave Koopmans his third goal in two days.
Goalkeeper John Walker was once again impressive and held the opponent scoreless for the second consecutive day. Simpson will hope to complete their hat trick of victories when they take on Walla Walla tomorrow night at Caldwell Park at 7:30pm.
