Simpson Buries the Bruins
Team takes down Bethany 4-1
- Scotts Valley (10/2/2003)
There is nothing that takes away that awful pit feeling in your stomach of losing quite like winning.
Head Coach Lee McKenzie knew how important it was that his team rebound from the miserable road trip from the week before and the Vanguards would do just that in their 4-1 romp of Bethany College.
On a perfect afternoon for soccer, the visiting Vanguards (4-3) would start a bit sluggish, but see them take a 2-1 lead into the half. The second half would see Simpson add two more goals and dominate the entire 45 minutes.
McKenzie, in his second year at the helm for the Vanguards, knew the implications of his team playing well.
"It was an important victory after our recent bad run, although I was concerned with our slow start. It was nice to rest some of our starters in preparation for our game on Saturday with Menlo."
