Vanguard Provide Their Own Storm Against the Cyclones

Visiting Mills College downed in three straight

- Redding, CA (10/4/2003)

We've all driven it.  Interstate 5 and 505, the main arteries that separate Redding and the rest of civilization.  Just the thought of driving it can create drowsiness like Nyquil.

So one could expect the Vanguard to be a bit sluggish after a week in which the team traveled over 1,500 miles on three consecutive road trips to the Bay Area.  However, coming home does have it's privileges.

Playing in front of a rambunctious crowd, the Vanguards were every bit alive and left the fans reeling with their 30-20,30-18,30-18 win over Mills College.  Leading the way was the trio of Sarah Taylor (Jr., Redding, CA)  6 kills, Brandi Klemenok (Sr., Paradise, CA) 14 digs, and Darlene Bower (Jr., Vacaville, CA) 14 assists.

Head Coach Sean Porter was pleased with his team's performance, knowing the travel from the week could play a factor in tonight's game.

"With all the traveling that we did this week, I thought we could be a bit tired.  But we came out strong, executed well on offense, and played a good game."

The Vanguards improve to 3-4 in the California Pacific Conference with the victory.  They will host Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday at 7:30pm.
