The women's soccer team busted loose for five goals as they knocked off the visiting Shasta College Knights 5-2 on Saturday.

The Vanguards wasted very little time getting on the board as Julie Swinburne (So., Woodland) knocked home a corner kick from Johanna Sagehorn (Jr., Ukiah) just 12 minutes in.

Another Saeghorn corner kick found the net only six minuted later, this time it was headed in by Hannah Davidson (Fr., Culver City).

The Knights pulled one back off a rebound attempt shortly before halftime to make it a 2-1 game at the break.

Simpson came out on the attack in the second half and rallied for three more goals.  The first just ten minutes into the second period as Aubrey Davidson (Fr., Culver City) hit a solid low shot into the corner off a pass from sister Hannah Davidson.

Ten minutes later the Vanguards were awarded a penalty shot, and four-year starter Katie Groden (Sr., Trukee) pounded it past the keeper to make it a 4-1 game.

Late substitute Kathlee Yates (Fr., Cottonwood) made it 5-1 after dilling home a pass from across the box from Danae Reeser (Fr., Cool).

Shasta did pull another goal back in the final minutes, but Simpson easily held on for a 5-2 win, their second straight.
