Simpson beats Golden State Baptist in home opener

In the first game ever using the new Red Hawks mascot, the men's basketball team defeated visiting Golden State Baptist 95-87.
The season's home opener was played before a loud and large crowd at the Student Life Center.
A pair of freshmen led the way for Simpson as C.J. Martin (Fr., 6'2", Sacramento) racked up 22 points, going 8-of-11 from the free-throw line. Markis Morrison (Fr., 6'4", Vallejo) added 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting.
The Red Hawks once led by 25, but Golden State rallied to tie the game with just three minutes to go. After a few key buckets and steals, Simpson held on for their second win of the season.
Grant Drake (12), Ben Saunders (11), and Brandan Smith (10) were also in double figures scoring.
Jeremy Brown led Golden State with 35 points.
