It was a learning experience for the men's basketball team as they lost on three straight nights at the Golden State Athletic Conference Classic in southern California.

Thursday, Simpson would fall 100-60 to the host Lions of Vanguard University, who knocked off NAIA #12 in the country Lubbock Christian the next night.

Mel Sattler (So., Fair Oaks) was the high man with 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting.  Rich Mitchell (So., Richmond) had nine point after shooting 2-of-3 from three-point land.

Friday pitted Simpson against #3 in the country Azusa Pacific University.  After trailing by just six halfway through the first half, the Vanguards were shut down by the Cougars depth and fell 106-65.

Grant Drake (Jr., Palmdale) led the way with 14 points, while Sattler and Mitchell picked up 11 each.

The tournament ended with Simpson losing to Hope International 91-65.  Markise Morrison (Fr., Vallejo) had a tournament high 16 points for the Vanguards.

Drake again dropped in 14, and Todd Dwyer (Fr., Redding) had 11 points and five assists.

Simpson travels to Euegene Bible on Friday and Northwest Christian on Saturday.
