Vanguards fall to Pioneers in five games

The women's volleyball team lost a tough battle to the host Pioneers of Pacific Union College in five games Tuesday night.

Simpson came out hot, winning the first game 30-24, but dropped the next two 13-30 and 23-30.  After rallying to tie the match with a 31-29 game four win, the Vanguards fell 12-25 in the decisive game five.

Joanna Larson (So., Anderson) led the way with 12 kills and nine digs.  Co-captains Sarah Taylor (Sr., Redding) and Jamie Heupel (Sr., Manteca) also had strong nights.  Taylor had eight kills, seven aces, and eight digs, while Heupel came up with 21 assists.

The Vanguards travel to Walla Walla, WA on Thursday before spending Friday and Saturday at the NCCAA West Regional in Portland, OR.
