Volleyball Drops Pair of Cal Pac Contests
Bethany, Menlo too much for young squad
- (10/1/2005)
Two of the California Pacific Conference volleyball powers came into Redding and proved to be a little too much for a young Red Hawk squad as Simpson went 0-2 over the weekend.
Friday night, Simpson battled hard in an intense back-and-forth battle. The Red Hawks held leads late into both the third and fourth games, but Bethany rallied for a 30-24, 24-30, 30-26, 33-31 victory. A large and loud crowd cheered as Carly Bagshaw (Jr., Red Bluff) took over the match at time with 21 kills, 10 digs, and four blocks. Darlene Bower (Sr., Vacaville) picked up a season-high 50 assists, while freshman Leah Reginato (Palo Cedro) and Stacy Viss (Modesto) added 12 and 11 kills respectively.
Saturday night was a rough test as defending Cal Pac champion Menlo College came in and flexed their power in a 30-17, 30-17, 30-12 win. Bagshaw again led the Red Hawks with 10 kills and 15 digs, while Bower had 20 assists and 16 digs.
The Red Hawks are back in action when they host William Jessup at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
