Women's Soccer 2005 Season Review
Several school records fall in rebuilding year
- (12/13/2005)
Under first-year head coach Mark Starr, the Lady Red Hawks lit up the record books. With five wins in 2005, they tied for the most wins in a season in school history, finished with the best winning percentage, broke the season scoring record, and sophomore Hannah Davison (MF, Culver City) tied the individual season record with seven goals.
Freshman Stephanie Gillett (MF, Lodi, CA) and junior college transfer Kristina Decker(D, Redding) also put themselves near the top of the record books as they scored six and four goals respectively. Decker became the first women's soccer California Pacific Conference Player of the Week after knocking home a hat-trick in a win over Mills.
A team that scored just nine goals the year before, the ladies opened the season on an offensive rampage, netting 12 goals in the first three games. After an overtime loss to start the season, the Lady Red Hawks bounced right back to win three-straight, also a program record.
Injuries and a tough schedule got the best of the team later in the season, but huge strides have been made. Next year's squad returns eight starters, and well-connected Coach Starr gets his first full-year at what looks like a very promising recruiting class.
