Free kick in overtime gives Simpson 2-1 win

- (10/1/2005)

Bethany McKee(Jr., Visalia) struck the game-winner nine minutes into overtime as the Red Hawks knocked off visiting Bethany University 2-1 Saturday.

In their first game of the season the two squads met up in Scotts Valley and again went to overtime, but with Bethany coming out with a 4-3 win.  On Saturday,  Simpson would not let history repeat itself.

Less than thirty minutes in the Red Hawks got on the board as Hannah Davidson (So., Culver City) knocked home a pass from sister Aubrey Davidson (So., Culver City).  The score would remain 1-0 until Bethany knotted it up at 1-1 in the sixtieth minute.

Then, nine minutes into the extra period, McKee took a free kick from 40-yards out that curled into the top right corner and give the Red Hawks the overtime win.

Goal keeper Amilia Belden(Jr., Volcano) made four saves, including a clutch diving save in overtime to preserve the win.

The Red Hawks are back in action Tuesday when they host the Pacific Union club team at 4 p.m.
