In their home opener, the Simpson University men's basketball team came from behind to steal a 67-62 win over visiting California State University- East Bay on Saturday night.

The first five minutes of the game were back-and-forth before the Pioneers used a 20-5 run to open up a 14 point lead.  Simpson closed the gap to nine by halftime, but looked like they might be out matched as they were out rebounded 24-10 in the first half.

The Red Hawks came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and opened the period with a 14-5 run to tie it up.  Simpson's strong defense led to 28 Pioneer turnovers led by Jason Washington's (Fr., Antioch) five steals.  Washington made several key plays in the final minutes including a steal and a pair of free-throws that put the Red Hawks up for good.  Washington ended the night with 14 points, five assist, five rebounds, and five steals.

A bright spot in the first half, Erick Jamerson (Jr., Seaside) netted 13 of his team-high 16 points in the opening period.  Markise Morrsion (Jr., Vallejo) added ten points for the Red Hawks.

Simpson moves to 2-1 in the California Pacific Conference as Head Coach Josh Binderup wins in his first-ever game in Redding.  The Red Hawks have a series of non-conference match ups coming up as they travel to California Baptist and La Sierra next week before hosting Northwest Christian on January 2nd.
