Jamerson's Huge Weekend Doesn't Save Simpson
Red Hawks lose to #4 OIT and S. Oregon
- (11/26/2006)
Junior forward Erick Jamerson (Seaside) scored at least 20 points in each of the Simpson University men's basketball games at the Southern Oregon Tournament, but the Red Hawks could not pull out a win as they lost 58-73 to the host Raiders and 77-101 to NAIA #4 Oregon Tech.
Against Southern Oregon, Jamerson hit 7-of-19 shots for a game-high 20 points, while grabbing six rebounds. The Red Hawks hit 88% from the free-throw line, but just 28% from the field as they struggled to keep up with a very experience Raider squad, which reached the NAIA Sweet 16 last season. Rich Mitchell (Jr., Richmond) and Jason Washington (Fr., Antioch) had nine points each for Simpson.
Having played both Southern Oregon and OIT just a week ago at OIT's tournament in Klamath Falls, the Red Hawks knew what to expect and showed some improvement in a 77-101 loss to the high-powered Owls.
Jamerson again netted a game-high point total, making 9-of-13 from the field for 25 points, while the trio of Tramaine Ellison (So., San Jose), Casey Van Dyk (So., Salem, OR) and Markise Morrison (Jr., Vallejo) scored 10 points each.
The preseason tournaments are done, but both squads will get another chance to tune up before the California Pacific Conference campaign as they travel to take on Northwest Christian in Salem on Friday.
