Pioneers Shut Down Simpson In Overtime
Red Hawks lose conference opener 95-104
- (12/7/2006)
The Simpson University men's basketball team led by as many as fourteen, but the host Pacific Union Pioneers rallied back and shut down the Red Hawks in overtime for a 104-95 victory.
In both team's California Pacific Conference openers, both teams had opportunities to win the game in regulation. After Dustin Comm tied the game up with a minute and a half to play, both squads went cold, missing on close chances and from the line.
After the game went into overtime, it was Pacific Union that made the most of their open looks as they finished the game shooting 55% from the field. Simpson went just 1-of-7 in the extra frame as the Pioneers outscored them 14-5.
Simpson jumped ahead in the first half behind junior Erick Jamerson (F, Seaside), who hit 10-of-17 shots for a team-high 25 points, while grabbing nine rebounds. Markise Morrison (G, Vallejo) led four more Red Hawks in double-digits as he scored 18, followed by Daniel Eoff (Jr., Seaside) with 16, Danny Bringle's (So., McCloud) 14 points, and 10 for Jason Washington (Fr., Antioch).
The Red Hawks will look to get back on track as they travel to Bethany University for a 7:30 p.m. tip off on Saturday.
