In a physical contest, the Simpson University women's basketball team couldn't pull off a big win on the road as they fell 61-77 to host Bethany University on Saturday night.
The Lady Red Hawks shot an outstanding 58% from the field in the first half, but turned the ball over 34 times on the night in the loss. After falling down 31-40 at halftime, Simpson continued to make runs, and pulled within as many as four in the second half, before the strength of the Bruins pulled out a win.
Sophomore Katie Garringer (G, Susanville) led Simpson with 16 points and three steals, while Kelsey Lang (Jr., G, Red Bluff) hit 6-of-11 from the field for 15 points. Chalynn Passmore (Fr., G, Anderson) added 11 points, while Sara Fairburn (So., P, Spokane, WA) hit for 10 points in the loss.
Simpson is off until Friday when they travel to preseason California Pacific Conference favorite and NAIA DII #15 Menlo College.
