Philadelphia Biblical 53, Simpson University 47
In a defensive struggle, Philadelphia Biblical University slipped past host Simpson University 53-47 Friday night at the Heritage Student Life Center. Just eight points were scored in the first ten minutes of the game as the teams combined on 42 turnovers on the night. In a back-and-forth second half, the Eagles took the lead for good in the final five minutes as Danielle Norton hit two of her three 3-pointers. Oregon native Beth Smith led Philadelphia with 15 points, while Summer Mullen tallied 10.
Simpson stuck close despite hitting just 33% from the field and only 2-of-12 from 3-point territory. Sara Fairburn (So., Spokane, WA) led Simpson with 15 points and nine rebounds as the Red Hawks tried to pound the ball down low.
Katie Garringer (So., Susanville) and Chalynn Passmore (Fr., Anderson) were able to slash through the lane and fight for a very tough 11 points each, while sharp-shooter Kelsey Lang tallied 10 points.
Hope International 82, Lincoln Christian 44
The Royals of Hope International (Fullerton, CA) scored 41 points in each half as they cruised past Lincoln Christian (Springfield, IL) 82-44 in the opener of the Simpson University Thanksgiving Classic on Friday night. Jasmine Nault was all over the court for Hope as she hit 9-of-12 shots from the field, totaled 22 points, 13 rebounds, three assist, and four steals.
Malerie Rodriguez and Sara Lycans-Roy had 15 points each to pace the Royals who controlled the game from the early stages. Hope shot 54% from the field and caused 25 turnovers by the Angels in the win.
Bobbie Larson led Lincoln with 15 points, followed by Kari Otto’s 13 off the bench.
