Christian Ministry Leadership

Theology and Practices of Spiritual Formation

This course is designed to offer understanding and practical experience in the area of spiritual formation with consideration to the spiritual disciplines of solitude and community.

Principles of Leadership and Management

A study of leadership and management knowledge as it applies specifically to Christian and voluntary organizations.

Old Testament Survey

A survey of the Old Testament of the Bible, highlighting approaches to leadership and the groups led throughout the various periods of Old Testament history. Application to today's organizations and ministry leaders will be discussed.

New Testament Survey

A survey of the New Testament of the Bible, highlighting principles of Christ's leadership and leadership training with application to today's organizations and ministry leaders.

Bible Study, Interpretation and Application

An overview of various methods of Bible study, principles of interpretation, and appropriate application to contemporary life and situations.

Intro to Teaching and Preaching the Bible

-This course will provide an introduction to the ministry of proclaiming the good news of God. Though the emphasis of the course will be on the discipline of crafting and preaching a sermon, other contexts of delivery will be considered. The student will have the opportunity to preach a short sermon which will be videotaped) and receive feedback from the professor.

Introduction to Christian Theology

-An introduction to the discipline of theology, as significant theologians and major divisions of systematic theology are considered.

Pentateuch

An introduction to the content, historical context, and contemporary application of the Pentateuch (Genesis-Deuteronomy).

Life of Jesus

An introduction to the life of Jesus as recorded in the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John).

Book of Acts and the Mission of the Church

-An introduction to the book of Acts with a special focus on Christ's commission of the church to be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).

Theology and History of the Church

An introduction to the most important people and events that served to shape church history and historical theology from the post-apostolic fathers to the present.

Developing People for Leadership

A treatment of the issues and strategies for starting and finishing well in vocational ministry, as well as working effectively with volunteers and staff while assisting them in the use of their God-given gifts and potential.
