Department of Psychology
Mission
The primary mission of the Psychology Department at Simpson University is to promote human flourishing as informed by both the discipline of psychology and Christian theology. This mission is pursued and evidenced in the following learning outcomes.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge Base
The Psychology Department aims to provide information regarding the basic content of the field of psychology. We are also highly committed to having this knowledge base informed by sound Christian theology.
Communication and Research Skills
This skill set includes language skills in oral and written form, particularly in terms of how they relate to research skills. Communication skills are essential in order to appropriately and effectively design, interpret, implement and represent psychological theories and research.
Interpersonal Skills
We attempt to promote the development of interpersonal skills which enable a person to monitor one's own behavior, be sensitive to differences and similarities in others, understand conflicts and work effectively with people.
Ethic of Service
Ethic of service refers to the treatment and care for those with psychological disorders or other relational and developmental problems; support, training, and education to promote growth and maintenance in areas of cognitive, emotional, social, physical, familial, and interpersonal development; and empowerment and affirmation of diverse experiences that emerge from one's cultural and religious background and gender.
