English Department
Why be an English Major?
Are you the kind of person who loves language? Have you worked on the school newspaper or yearbook? Are you someone who would prefer to read a good book, write a poem, go to a play or film than do just about anything else? Does one of your favorite teachers teach English? Are you considering a degree in law after college? Or even going to seminary? Are you interested in teaching English someday?
If you are, then you might consider majoring in English at Simpson. Graduates from our English Department are teachers, newspaper reporters, librarians, art students, and seminarians. One is applying to law school. A faculty member in Theology and Ministry has an undergraduate degree in English as does one of our Business faculty members. The major, in short, is a gateway to these and other rewarding careers after graduation.
At least as important, however, as the benefits of the English degree after graduation is the richly rewarding experience it can be during your undergraduate years at Simpson. The variety of our course offerings, our faculty's commitment to make sure each major in the program succeeds, and the value we place on genuine intellectual inquiry and growth grounded in a Christian worldview - all of these qualities and more characterize the English Department at Simpson University.
