Teaching Philosophy:

A basic tenant of Professor Quirk’s teaching style is to stress the practical application of business theory to the work setting.  In order to bring more real world business practice to the classroom an emphasis is placed on exercises, some of which include field work in the community as well as small group case analysis and discussion.  This style is based on his 26 years of corporate experience prior to the start of his full time teaching career.

Areas of Professional Interest and Development:

The Business Department at Simpson University stresses the need for Christian Stewardship as a foundation for the practice of business in the 21rst century.  The world and the business community have recently witnessed the lack of ethical practices reflected by ENRON, etc.  Simpson’s business department educates its majors to lead by a positive Christian witness and fill the void of leadership.

In keeping with this viewpoint Professor Quirk has helped develop a new course called Business As Mission, jointly offered by the Theology and Ministry Department.  This new course brings Cross Cultural and Business Majors together to study International Business as an opportunity for Christian fieldwork
