WASC
Simpson University has been accredited by the Senior Colleges and Universities Commission of WASC since 1972. WASC stands for The Western Association of Schools and Colleges. It is one of six regional accrediting associations in the United States.
As a member, the university participates in periodic accreditation review. By participating in this process Simpson University demonstrates its commitment to developing and sustaining institutional capacity (operational integrity, fiscal stability and appropriate organizational structures to fulfill its purposes) and its commitment to educational effectiveness (organizing for learning and being a learning organization).
The accreditation review process is multifaceted. In May 2003 the university submitted its proposal to the WASC committee for review. In the fall of 2005 a visiting team came to campus for the Preparatory Review. The Educational Effectiveness Review takes place in the fall of 2007 with another site visit. The process will conclude with a Commission recommendation in the spring of 2008.
The university is making the accreditation review process materials available to constituents in order to provide increased accountability.
