Red Hawks Suffer Tough Loss to SOU

Southern Oregon and Simpson battled back forth last night at the Heritage Center. Simpson, who came off losing two in a row to NCAA II University of Alaska Fairbanks, came out a little sluggish as Southern Oregon jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead. The Red Hawks closed the gap within two points, 18-20, off sophomore Jason Washington lay-up with 10 minutes to go in the half. Southern Oregon went on a 4-0 run to close the half, up 37-33.
In the second half, the Red Hawks brought the game back to within two points (39-41) off of Junior Glenn Payne’s reverse lay-up. Southern Oregon went on a 12-2 run to put them up 41-52 with 12:16 left in the game. With 3:47 left in the game Glen Payne knocks down two free throws to bring Simpson to within ten points. Southern Oregon’s Josh McDermott makes one of his two free throws and puts the Raiders up 71-60. Sophomore Andrew Barclay scores a contested lay-up to close the gap to seven 64-71 with 1:59 left to play. Simpson’s Jason Washington get a quick steal off the inbounds play and is foul by Southern Oregon’s Trenton Fraser. Washington misses the first but makes the second and Simpson is within six points with 45 seconds left. Southern Oregon’s Ryan Pool knocks down two free throws to put them up ten with 11 seconds left. And Simpson looses 77-69.
Junior Glenn Payne led Simpson with 14 points. Senior Alex Nixon contributed with 13 points and sophomore Andrew Barclay ended with 12.
Simpson will travel to Klamath Falls, OR November 9 and 10 to face Oregon Teach and Southern Oregon.
