Men Fall in Alaska
Men's Basketball - Fairbanks, AK (11/5/2007)
The Simpson men’s basketball team traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska to face University of Alaska Fairbanks for their first two games of their 2007-2008 campaign.
In game one, both team battled back and forth in the first half as Simpson shot 57% from the field and 45% from the 3pt line. The Red Hawks went into halftime down eight points 44-52. In the second half the Red Hawks went cold and the Nanooks caught fire, shooting 63% from the 3pt. The Nanooks hot shooting closed the deal for the Red Hawks as Alaska Fairbanks won 110-84. Sophomore Jason Washington led the Red Hawks with 17 points and 3 assists.
On Saturday, in game two, Simpson regrouped from the game one lose and went into halftime with a four point lead, 50-46. Alex Nixon score 19 of his 29 points in the first half. In the second half the Nanooks were able to take the lead when senior Alex Nixon reciveved his fourth foul and the Red Hawks did not score a single point for five minutes which resulted in the Nanooks going on a 16-0 run. The run close the game for Alaska as they pulled off the victory 93-81. Senior Alex Nixon scored 29 points and 10 rebounds and sophomore Josh Sidner scored 14 points and 4-7 from the 3 point line.
Simpson drops to 0-2 and will look to bounce back at home on November 6 against Southern Oregon University. Tip off is at 7:30pm.
