REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University women's head soccer coach Mark Starr announced that three student athletes have signed to play for the Red Hawks next season. Ashley Piche of Palo Cedro, Christina Wade of Visalia and Jordan England of Elverta have all signed letters of intent to play for Simpson during the 2007-2008 school year.
"We are excited to have each of these players sign on with Simpson University," said Starr. "Ashley's versatility and leadership qualities will allow her to make an immediate impact on our team; Christina has been a leading scorer for College of the Sequoias; and Jordon is a talented goalkeeper who will make an already strong defensive team even better. Each of these exceptional student athletes are key additions to strengthening our team."
Piche, a Foothill High graduate, said she signed on with Simpson because it provides great opportunities for college students and she would be able to play for Starr.
"I've had the honor of playing for Coach Starr when I was with the Redding Missfits, and I am excited to play for him at Simpson University," said Piche.
Simpson has Piche rated as the area's No.1 girl's soccer player in the 2007 class.
Wade brings experience from a junior college level to the Red Hawks after playing for the College of the Sequoias for two years. As the starting center mid-fielder, Wade was the second leading scorer for her team.
England is a strong goalkeeper who is ranked first in her high school's senior class. She is also recognized as the 2006 Capital Valley Conference all-conference goalkeeper.
Each of the student athletes will receive scholarships from Simpson University.
