Description:

The Head Coach has the responsibilities of carrying on the sport in the best interest of the University, adhering to the Philosophy, Mission Statement, and the Athletic Policy of Simpson University. Further, each Head Coach should have a working knowledge of their governing organizations (NCCAA and NAIA and the Simpson University Athletic Policy) as it relates to them, personally, or their responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  1. Professional preparation: an earned college degree or working toward that presently.
  2. Preparation for coaching either through past experience and/or college courses of study.
  3. Background experience: possess working knowledge of all aspects of the sport.
  4. Personal: demonstrates the following: a) role of sportsmanship (winning and losing) and a high moral standard; b) ability to lead, motivate, and encourage university-age students.

Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for team building and skill training.
  2. Class B license with passenger vehicle endorsement for buses weighing less than 26,001 pounds (GVWR) shall be obtained within 45 days of signing Employment Agreement.
  3. Direct strategy and manage players’ involvement during athletic practices or contests.
  4. Help develop a program to aid student athletes who are having academic difficulties helping to monitor the academic development of one’s student athlete toward graduation.
  5. Submit a partial schedule to the Athletic Director for approval after NCCAA and NAIAA schedules are established.
  6. Work with the Athletic Director on travel arrangements and meal considerations.
  7. Be responsible for motivating, encouraging, disciplining and maintaining sportsmanship.
  8. Make suggestions to the Athletic Director for names of referees, linesmen, and judges.
  9. Work with Athletic Director in the procurement of officials, timers, scorekeepers, statisticians, announcers, and prospective coaches.
  10. Provide statistical information to the NCCAA, NAIA, local newspaper, and Redding Readings as well as keep school and individual records.
  11. Help maintain and care for facilities.
  12. Delegate responsibilities to assistants, managers, and squad members.
  13. Help prepare the budget for respective sport and is responsible to accurately monitor his/her part of the athletic budget.
  14. Responsible for proper checkout, use, storage (both in and out of season), cleaning, marking and inventory of all equipment.
  15. Recommend to the Athletic Director award winners for the particular sport and recommended changes and improvements in your sport.
  16. Coordinate and direct with the guidance of the Admissions Office the recruiting for the program.
  17. Provide appropriate and timely information about your sport to the Athletic Secretary for distribution to different media.
  18. Give input and help interview assistant coaches.
  19. Accept other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Director of Athletics and/or the Vice President for Student Development.
